Albert Einstein said: Creativity is contagious! Pass it on! So I did!
There is nothing more uplifting when you have the stage to talk about your passion. But there is nothing more powerful and heartwarming to inspire young people by sharing your passion. I have had that opportunity recently and I am still beaming ever since.
I put my foot on the path of writing and illustrating children's picture books by accident. It all started with a simple beach stroll with my son. We were collecting seashells thrown out by the sea and he commented on the seashells I have collected. His statement was so powerful that it lit the idea bulb in an instant. You will read more about it when the book comes out. The rookie is working on it!
Since that day I started writing and then out of boredom I even begun creating some art using seashells and frangipani blooms my son would collect. I also use other mix media in my reach. Not to forget, I continuously add more titles to my picture book collection as that is another valuable source of inspiration for me.
Anyhow, let's get back to the main idea of this post and that is sharing my experience of spreading creativity.
I am fortunate enough to work with enthusiastic teachers and collaborative colleagues who invited me to present for a provocation at the beginning of a new unit on How We Express Ourselves with the central idea: Exploring, creating and responding to art develops understanding of ourselves and the world around us. And since authors and illustrators are considered artists, I had the honor to inspire the third graders to unleash their creativity and use it to express themselves through art and words. We figured that the best ideas for writing come from your heart, while boredom allows them to easier pop up in your head. "Thanks" to Covid (lol) this presentation took place online but even within virtual context there was so much excitement and enthusiasm and unleashed creativity. The photos and comments I am sharing in the photo gallery below are evidence that art is truly amazing, it allows us to express ourselves in different ways, ways that work better for some more than others. And last but not least, I witnessed that creativity is contagious and it can connect us all!
My heart is full!
